Do you feel pain when you are asleep?

My nephew was crying as a matter of life and death because he wounded himself from too much excitement in watching the fireworks. He didn’t want me to disinfect his wound.

While he was sleeping, I cleaned his wound. And he didn’t even move a single muscle to feel the pain.

Makes me wonder – do we feel pain when we are asleep?
