Computer Literacy

Harry is my new lappy from The Habit. One night, I complained that I could not connect to my WiFi at home. A true IT guy in every sense, (He’s an IT Director!), he said maybe we can do remote access on the weekend. Noticing that this may be another human error, I said, “Maybe you can add a network and all that jazz.” So he did all the necessary steps over Skype. I deliberately followed. Fast learner that I am, it took us about good two and a half hours. When we reached for the step where it actually shows the password, I noticed I just entered the incorrect password. Too embarrassed to tell The Habit since he has gone through the whole nine yards, I discreetly changed the password and told the Habit that he did a very wonderful job. J

Few months ago, I got my new laptop from the office. Too excited, I brought it home only to my dismay. It wouldn’t read my WiFi connection. I tried to troubleshoot it for several hours -- following what The Habit and I did few days ago but to no avail. The following day, I complained to my colleague that my WiFi isn’t working. He looked into my Adell and clicked a button on the side. Then me glorified (I know this is grammatically incorrect), the wifi icon was blinking. :)

In my Office Outlook, I was frantic that I haven’t received emails for the past 4 hours. After 4 hours of waiting, I called our Tech Support (outsourced in India). She did the remote access. And she just said, “Ellen, you just have your outlook set to offline mode.”

Me too embarrassed.

The other night, I complained to The Habit that I could not connect to MS Outlook through my laptop. He said that I could bring my office laptop to the hotel and he can check on it. So good IT guy that he is, he troubleshot it. He asked me for my Log in name and I said he can enter my office email address. I insisted that my email address was my log in and said that could not be possible. With my absolute knowledge in computers, he conceded. He said, we need to call your tech support. And again, I called tech support. She did my remote access. And said, “you just entered the invalid ID that’s why you can’t log in.”

Ain’t life grand when you are computer literate? :)
