Yesterday, my girlfriend (!), Belle and I went to Bedok Town Center to do our weekly grocery shopping. I paused in amazement (now really, think on how I look when I am amazed, multiply that by 2). The good Filipino bananas are here. No wonder why, I can’t find decent bananas in eMall. The shrimps were fresh, still wriggling. And a half kilo shrimp costs the same as my bag of potato chips. And the high end Jasmine rice mum usually buys in Cebu, is just the low kind here in Singapore. And there were turtles swimming and frogs that were dissected. There were different kinds of crabs and lobsters and other sea creatures I get to read in textbooks, well internet, that is. I’m really really amazed. This was a cook’s mecca. I don’t have to scour in Carbon just to get good deals and best finds to have the ingredients. In Sheng Shiong, everything’s there, wet market-free.
In Singapore, they don’t make anything. Everything is imported but they always got the best. They don’t speak good English yet they have communicated very well. Again, I paused in amazement (now really, think on how I look when I am amazed, multiply that by 5).
