Of Love Stories and Tri-Angles
When is a love story sweet? When man sweeps woman off his feet? When he rescues damsel in distress? Or when he snatches her away from someone else who she thought she truly loved but not knowing that she was really in love with him until some Prince Charming lured her into an unforgettable adventure?
Movies like Made of Honor, The Wedding Planner, The Accidental Husband, Sweet Home Alabama and even local teleserye The Wedding were all love stories. Man met woman. They fell in love. And they all left someone crying at the alter.
I am fond of love stories. However leaving a lover because you found someone else is selfish. Are these love stories a justification for two-timing? I hope not. The sparks, the whirlwind romance, the first kiss, the stare, falling for someone else even one is still in a relationship. Getting out of love from a long-term relationship to pursue a new love. These are all signs of infidelity however told in an oblique allusion.
What about the one left behind? We all know it wouldn't be easy giving up the one we love. More so, it is never easy to be left behind. But why do they still concoct love stories with tri-angles?
I am a sucker for love stories. However, I don't like stories with choosing options: the one we love vs the one who loves us most, the predictable and stable vs the unpredictable and adventurous. Because in whatever option we choose, there will always be someone left crying. Someone is gonna get hurt. Somehow, there are dreams that were shattered. Because somewhere somehow once, I was the lesser option.
